I had a Family lunch date in Burnham Market Yesterday. Not officially a trip to the coast but I’m never going to make a 200 mile round trip to within 5 miles of the sea and not get sight over the water. So I had 10 minutes on the Quay at Wells Next The Sea in Brilliant Midday Sunlight.
It was Fantastic but Bitingly Cold. I had the wrong Coat on and paid a heavy price for being unprepared. I had the idea that I would do a flying visit vlog for my YouTube page so didn’t wear my bigger outdoors coat. Its brilliant against the elements. But I’ve discovered that every movement in that coat manifests itself as unacceptable background noise in the Audio.
In the much lighter jacket I was frozen to the point of shivering. There wasn’t time to go back to the car to change. So no video. Cross with myself is an understatement. The Lunch date too important to test the timescale available. But I shot a few frames in gloved hands with my 5D and headed back to the car glad to be out of the icy breeze. The Light was glorious. Bright low and directional with a warm edge. Very Contrasty but I don’t mind. You photograph the planet as you find it.
It was probably the quietest I have ever seen Wells and again I will chalk that up as another missed opportunity. But also a signal that I should visit more often out of season.
The short drive between Wells and Burnham Market was a Joy. Loads of spots where I could have just stopped and photographed the trees as I passed by Holkham. Set me thinking about how I might actually do that. I don’t know that area so well. Another signal perhaps.
The shot here was taken on my Canon 5D mkii with 24-70mm fitted. It shows the Towns now famous Lifeboat Horse Sculpture removed from its summer installation on the Marsh onto a harbour pontoon.
